About

a few words

Erica Rose

erica rose is a writer, reader, and professor of English based in Austin, Texas — though her Mexican American roots run deep in South Texas, where she first learned: stories are how we make sense of being alive.

She has spent over twenty years in the classroom thinking carefully about language, and the rest of her time thinking wildly about everything else. A mother to three remarkable human beings, she considers raising children who love stories to be amongst her finest work.

erica writes memoir, personal essays, and whatever refuses to stay quiet. She believes the human condition is the most urgent subject there is, and approaches it with equal parts humility, compassion, and wit.

She writes to think. She writes to feel. She writes to live inside and outside of the lines.
